All around America, people are donating cars to charity on a regular basis. Most of us can’t afford to donate a brand new car, of course, but you might be surprised on how many organizations will gratefully accept a used car donation.
Unfortunately, many people are not aware of what charity car donation actually is and although most people will have heard of the term or could have a guess at what it involves, the majority of people do not actively look into the possibility of donating their car to charity.
One of the points that puts a lot of people off donating a car is that they believe the car they are donating has to be in a great condition. Of course, the better condition the car is in, the more money that the charity will receive should they decide to sell it on, but most charities who can accept a car donation will accept any vehicle, regardless of whether it is brand new or a used car donation. Furthermore, there is a considerable amount of charities who will accept cars that are not even working properly – or at all – and more and more charities are accepting other vehicles, such as motorbikes and boats.
If you are not heavily involved with a charity or have not donated a car in the past, it can be difficult to see exactly what benefit donating a car will have. In essence, the benefits are considerable, especially if the charity is actively seeking regular car donations.
For example, imagine if a charity advertised and promoted the fact that they can gratefully accept car donations and for the following year received one used car donation a week. Now, imagine if each of these cars brought in $500 – that’s $26,000 that could be taken and reinvested directly back into the charity.
When a car is donated and money is received from selling it, the proceeds are generally put towards developing and delivering a range of different programs. Each charity will have its own programs and could be anything from helping to fund research into new medical drug to providing a safer neighborhood for children to live and play in.
Using the previous monetary amount – $26,000 – as an example, this could have a substantial effect on a charity whose aim it is to provide the homeless with shelter and food on a night. It may not be enough to provide a permanent residence for those people who unfortunately do not have a home, but it can provide a temporary place for them to get washed and have some hot food. Donating a car may not seem like a massive contribution to the donator, but the benefits to the people the charity help can be immense.
A used car donation can make a substantial amount of difference to any charity that receives it. Whether they sell the vehicle on from that used car donation or pass it to someone they help so that they can use it, someone around the country will be able to benefit from the car that you donated.
